If you’re planning to have the inside of your home painted, one of your first questions is probably how much it’s going to cost.
Interior painting prices can vary quite a bit depending on the size of the room, the condition of the walls, and how much preparation is needed. Here’s what homeowners in South Jersey should know before getting an estimate.
Average Interior Painting Costs
Based on published New Jersey painting estimates, here are some general price ranges you can use when planning your project:
Standard bedroom, walls only: $450 to $750
Bedroom, including ceiling and trim: $700 to $1,300
Larger living room, walls only: $800 to $1,500
These are estimated market ranges, not fixed prices or our company’s quotes. The actual cost depends on the work involved.
What Affects the Price?
Personally, I believe the condition of the walls is one of the biggest things homeowners should consider.
A room with smooth walls and a few nail holes is a straightforward project. A room with cracked drywall, damaged corners, peeling paint, and several old repairs is going to require more work.
Ceiling height, doors, windows, trim, paint quality, and furniture also affect the price.
Another thing worth considering is whether you’re painting one room or several. Completing multiple rooms together can sometimes reduce the amount of setup time per room.
Is It Worth Painting Yourself?
Absolutely, especially if you’re comfortable doing the work and have the time.
Painting your own bedroom can save you a considerable amount in labor. Just remember to account for paint, brushes, rollers, drop cloths, sanding supplies, and the time needed to prepare everything.
For larger projects or rooms requiring extensive repairs, I believe hiring an experienced painter is worth considering.
Our Recommendation
Before hiring anyone, ask exactly what’s included in the estimate.
Will they repair nail pops and cracks? Are ceilings and trim included? What paint are they using? How many coats are being applied?
I believe homeowners should know what they’re getting before agreeing to a price.
