Our Drywall Process For New Sheetrock
New Sheetrock needs proper finishing before it’s ready for paint. We take care of taping, applying joint compound, sanding, and preparing the surface to give walls and ceilings a smooth, professional finish.
1. Inspecting and Preparing the Sheetrock
We start by checking that the drywall is properly secured, screws are set correctly, and any larger gaps are filled. Taking care of these details early helps prevent problems during the finishing process.
2. Taping Joints and Corners
We apply drywall tape and joint compound to seams and inside corners to reinforce the joints and help prevent cracking. Outside corners receive corner bead for a straight, durable edge. We also cover all screw heads with joint compound.
3. Applying Joint Compound
We apply multiple coats of joint compound, allowing each coat to dry before continuing. Each coat is spread wider than the previous one to blend the seams into the surrounding Sheetrock. We pay close attention to keeping walls flat and corners straight.
4. Sanding and Final Touch-Ups
Once the compound has dried, we sand the finished areas to remove ridges and imperfections. We use dust-control methods whenever practical and inspect the surfaces under good lighting. Any remaining imperfections are touched up before the final sanding.
5. Priming for Paint
After the drywall is finished and cleaned, we apply drywall primer to seal the new Sheetrock and joint compound. This helps provide even paint absorption and a consistent finish.
Our goal is to leave every wall and ceiling smooth, with properly finished joints, clean corners, and a surface that’s ready for painting.
